A better way for small businesses
Rocco saw the problem first-hand when his mum, who runs a small business, had a frustrating experience dealing with a business rates company. It made him question why understanding a rates bill and deciding what to do next could feel so difficult.
Official routes can be free, but working out which route applies, what information to provide and where to begin is not always straightforward when you are busy running a business.
He decided to approach the problem differently: create a digital service that checks the key facts first, explains the options clearly and points owners towards free official help whenever it makes sense.
That became the principle behind RatesAngel: understand your position first, and only pay for assistance if you choose to and it adds genuine value.
Technology should remove complexity
Start with the property. Ask only what matters. Explain the result.
RatesAngel uses published rating information, transparent calculations and a short set of questions to help business owners understand the initial position.
The service is deliberately value first. The initial Health Check asks for the rating facts before asking for contact details. It shows the reasoning, the important unknowns and the next sensible step.
Sometimes that next step is no action. Sometimes it is a free council or VOA route. Sometimes a business owner wants RatesAngel to prepare or manage the administration for a fixed fee.

That principle influences the Health Check, Watch, pricing and the RatesAngel Trust Standard.
Why free routes matter
A free route can still feel difficult when you are running a business.
Official business rates routes exist and government guidance makes clear that businesses can manage many matters themselves. But knowing a route exists is not the same as knowing whether it applies, what information is needed or having the time to complete it.
The free route stays visible
If the issue appears suitable for an official self service route, RatesAngel explains that option rather than hiding it.
Help remains optional
If the owner would rather not handle the administration, fixed fee assistance can be offered where the issue fits the service.
Watch keeps the relationship useful
A property with nothing to fix today may still benefit from monitoring future rating and policy changes.
Built for owner managed businesses
Business rates are the first problem RatesAngel is tackling.
RatesAngel focuses on business rates in England, with a free online Health Check, enquiries for administrative help and requests for a defined property Watch service.
The longer term ambition is broader: build a trusted digital watchdog that helps independent businesses understand recurring costs, changes and renewal points without needing specialist knowledge in every category.

The free online Health Check is available to businesses throughout England. The complimentary 12 month Founding Business Watch offer is limited to qualifying businesses in these towns, with monitoring beginning only after RatesAngel confirms activation in writing.
A different kind of business rates service
RatesAngel is not presented as a continuation of any former Rates Angel company or historic business rates consultancy. It is a new service operated by Maivero Limited, built around current rules, current technology and a deliberately transparent commercial model.
We do not want an independent business owner to sit through a sales pitch simply to understand whether anything needs attention. We want technology to do more of the searching, checking and explaining. We want the free options to be as visible as the paid ones.
And when somebody genuinely wants help, we want the service, the scope and the price to be clear.
